Europian bass

Europen bass has a very unique, distinctive look: the main body is dark bluish in color while the sides and the belly goes from silvery grey to silvery white. It can grow up to 1m in length and 14 kg. It is mostly found in the Mediterreannean, east Atlantic and around British Isles where it inhabits shallow coastal waters 2-5 m deep where the presence of the fresh water from the underwater sources can be found. However, it may go down to the depth of 80 m as well and it often enters estuaries.

By nature it’s a voracious hunter feeding on everything , mostly prawns, young eels and mullets.

Energy value of 100g of fresh European bass is 64 kcal/286 kj of what 0.6 % are carbohydrates, 1.5% fat and 16.5% proteins.

Minerals contained in fresh European bass: potassium (328 mg), phosphorus (284 mg), magnesium (53 mg), selenium (46,8 μg), calcium (13 mg), iron (0.4 mg), zinc (0.5 mg).

Vitamins contained in fresh European bass: B complex vitamins, thiamine (0.1 mg), riboflavin (0.2 mg), niacine (1.9 mg), pantothenic acid (0.9 mg), vitamins B6 (0.5 mg), B9 (6 μg ) and B12 (0.3 μg), vitamin A (213 IU).

European bass is a fish poor in calories that contains a small proportion of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol. As such, it is an excellent source of quality proteins and omega 3 fatty acids. In addition, it is rich in various vitamins and minerals –selenium and vitamine B complex being the most important ones.
